🗺 Itinerary 1: Khuvsgul Lake & Taiga Loop

Day-by-Day Plan

Day 1: Mörön → Khuvsgul Lake (Khatgal)
Collect your Taiga.Rent vehicle at Mörön Airport and drive north to the legendary Khuvsgul Lake. Explore the lakeshore, kayak or swim, and camp near Khatgal or a lakeside ger camp.

Day 2: Khuvsgul Lake → Khoridol Saridag Mountains
Follow rough mountain tracks west into Khoridol Saridag National Park. Expect river crossings, pine forests, and wide alpine meadows with breathtaking views. Wild camp near a mountain stream or stay in a simple ger camp.

Day 3: Khoridol Saridag → Ulaan-Uul
Climb across mountain passes and descend into the Darkhad Basin. Ulaan-Uul is a small, remote village surrounded by pristine lakes and rivers — a perfect base to resupply and refuel.

Day 4: Ulaan-Uul → Renchinlkhümbe
Drive deeper into the Darkhad Basin, one of Mongolia’s wildest regions. The track follows valleys and marshlands rich in wildlife. Overnight near Renchinlkhümbe, where the road to the Taiga begins.

Day 5: Renchinlkhümbe → East Taiga (Tsaatan Region)
Enter the East Taiga with a local guide or ranger. Visit the Tsaatan reindeer herders and learn about their unique forest lifestyle and deep shamanic traditions. Overnight in or near a Tsaatan camp — an unforgettable cultural experience.

Day 6: East Taiga → Darkhad Valley Lakes
Return to the Darkhad Basin via rugged forest trails. Camp beside one of the region’s remote lakes or rivers, ideal for fishing, reflection, and true wilderness solitude.

Day 7: Darkhad Valley → Ulaan-Uul
Begin your journey south through the valley, passing meadows dotted with yurts and grazing horses. Spend your last night in Ulaan-Uul or nearby — a quiet stop before returning to civilization.

Day 8: Ulaan-Uul → Mörön
Enjoy a final scenic drive back to Mörön through open steppe and rolling hills. Drop off your Land Cruiser and celebrate completing one of Mongolia’s most iconic off-road adventures.

Day-by-Day Plan:

Day 1: Mörön → Khuvsgul Lake (Khatgal)
Pick up your Taiga.Rent 4×4 at Mörön Airport and drive north to the shimmering Khuvsgul Lake. Relax at the lakeshore or take a short hike in the surrounding mountains.

Day 2: Khuvsgul Lake → Galt Soum
Follow scenic backroads through pine forests and rolling hills to Galt Soum, a peaceful area surrounded by herder camps and grazing yaks. Camp near the river or stay in a cozy ger camp.

Day 3: Galt Soum → Khorgo Volcano

1. What driving experience do I need to rent a 4×4 for the Taiga?

You should be comfortable driving a manual transmission and have experience with basic off-road terrain. No extreme off-roading experience is required — we provide a full vehicle briefing and driving tips before departure.

All you need is a valid international driver’s license (or a license with a Latin alphabet). No special permits are required to explore the Taiga Desert by car.

Each 4×4 comes fully equipped with a rooftop tent, camping kitchen, cool box, water tank with shower, off-road tires, recovery gear, and an awning setup. Everything you need to be self-sufficient and comfortable on your adventure.

We provide suggested itineraries, offline maps, and local insights to help you plan your perfect road trip. You’re free to explore at your own pace — go where the adventure leads you.

Cell service is limited in remote areas, but we provide offline GPS navigation and emergency contact tools to keep you safe and on track wherever you go.
